HPCF Seeking Donations for Haitian Earthquake Relief
The Highland Park Community Foundation (www.hpcommunityfoundation.com), a charter Task Force member, has volunteered to research the most effective way to deliver ongoing help, and provide a tax-deductible 501(c)(3) vehicle for donors to be assured that 100% of their contributions will go directly toward Haitian earthquake relief.  The Foundation will also attempt to seek matching grants to compound the impact of your generous contributions.

The magnitude of the Haitian tragedy is heartbreaking, and the City of Highland Park is once again proud to be part of a humanitarian relief effort.  The Task Force has determined that –-initially, at least–-the most valuable contributions are monetary.  If you can make a contribution of any size, please mail your check to:

PAR Report of 2007 Enrollment Plan Moved to March 16 School Board Meeting
On December 17, 2007, the North Shore School District Board of Education adopted a plan to place incoming military-dependent children at Red Oak, Wayne Thomas and Oak Terrace elementary schools, Edgewood Middle School and Northwood Junior High. Now in its second year of implementation, the district administration has undertaken a plan assessment and review (PAR) of the implementation.

The PAR report, originally scheduled to be presented to the Board of Education in February 2010, has been rescheduled to March 16 do the press of other issues, including contract negotiations, budgetary issues and the district’s strategic planning initiative. The rescheduling will allow for a more thorough review and analysis of the PAR report’s data and its impact on the district’s schools.

Strategic Planning Update
North Shore School District 112 has reached out to the Highland Park, Highwood and Fort Sheridan communities to assist in “Planning Our Children’s Future,” as part of a Strategic Planning Initiative that will determine the direction the district will take through 2015.

Strategic Planning began January 13-15 and involved a cross-section of 29 community members, students, District 112 staff and administrators to form a Strategic Planning Team. Action Teams are being formed to begin work on developing the action steps necessary to implement the strategies. To view a list of the Strategic Planning Team members, click here.

Applications are no longer being taken for the Action Teams. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to be on an Action Team.
