KIDS GO CLASSIC

The 112 Education Foundation and the Ravinia Festival present
Kids Go Classic!

July 30 Concert a Big Hit

July 30, 2006
Ravinia Festival
Featuring world- renowned pianist and Highland Park resident Jorge Osorio
and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

District 112 students and families braved the summer heat wave to attend our annual summer event KIDS GO CLASSIC on July 30, 1006.  Over 1200 students and parents were treated to dinner, music, and giveaways when Highland Park resident and world famous pianist Jorge Federico Osorio and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra performed Mozart Concertos 14 and 23.  There is hardly a better way to spend a summer day than KIDS GO CLASSIC, which brings together families from all eleven schools for an evening of high quality entertainment at Ravinia Festival.

Now in our tenth year making music with our neighbor Ravinia Festival, our partnership looks forward to providing more unique musical programming for our students.  Each year the Foundation teams up with the Festival to provide residencies at two of the elementary schools in the District.  This year, both Lincoln and Oak Terrace Schools will benefit from ten week residencies designed by District teachers ad musicians from the Festival. Last year, Red Oak School sampled a wide variety of drums, bells and dighiridus working with talented Chicago musician Doug Brush.  Braeside students danced with noted choreographer Sanna Longden.  The residencies finished with a wonderful performance for the school and parents.

Can you imagine middle school students performing opera selections from Figaro and Carmen?  Working with talented vocalists from Opera Theatre North, District 112 chorus students learned and performed the arias from famous operas for their peers and parents  in the beautiful Martin Theater at Ravinia Festival.  The professional vocalists also treated the audience to an introduction to opera, Not Just Figaro, performing various selections to highlight and illustrate the instruction.  This interactive performance was so engaging, students were shouting Bravo! at the end of the concert
