Musical Glossary

Welcome To Elm Place Music

Through his studies of music education at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, Mr. Filipowski has come to believe in a rounded musical education for every child.

Students at Elm Place will enter a music classroom that is bright and colorful to stimulate their interest.  Activities in the class will be varied in as many ways as possible in order to address different learning styles. Differentiation will also assist in maintaining the interest of the students throughout the learning process.

Students will be exposed to music through the study of history, music theory, listening to and analyzing different styles, composing, and performing.

The music classroom should also be a safe environment for experimenting and sharing.  Students will work in groups and/or individually while learning to be supportive of each other and treat others with respect.

Students will also learn how music connects with other subject areas in academia.  Lessons will introduce how music is based in such subjects as mathematics, language arts, and art as well as many others.
