Miles is an outstanding cornerback on his high school football team. He plays first string varsity where the competition is intense. So intense that some of his teammates have resorted to taking steroids. They're lifting more and bulking up as a result, and Miles feels inadequate. His feelings of inadequacy cross over into his personal life. He worries that his acne is so repulsive that no girl will look at him. When his favorite coach leaves the game and another who doesn't like Miles's attitude takes over, he's stuck on the bench with the second stringers and has to decide just how important football is and should be. This is an excellent quick read filled with all sorts of teen issues including father-son relationships, girlfriends, steroid and alcohol use, and more.
