Tom is an overweight unnoticed seventh grade boy at St. Catherine's, a Catholic school. Because school is located near a hospital, severly burned Jessica will join them while undergoing treatment. Her appearance turns many of the other kids away, even Tom's best friend. Her burned face looks like a melted mask and her burned hands look like claws. What will happen when all kids join hands for a morning prayer? Who will take her hand? Tom is changed by his support for this tragic figure. This was a moderate read that is more thoughtful than action-packed.
