Brian's the only passenger in a small plane and is on his way to go see his father when the pilot has a heart attack. He's able to keep the plane in the air for quite some time but does eventually crash land in a Canadian lake. The only thing he's got to help him survive in the wilderness is a hatchet. Brian's observations of the natural world around him help him to find ways to survive, but for how long?
