Courses taught:
A combined class called Photo /Foods is offered to students who want to experience both photography and food preparation. Students will use the darkroom equipment when making a variety of photograms for the first half of the semester. Students will then move into the food preparation lab for the second half of the semester. Black and white photography is also offered as an elective. Students will have the opportunity to make a variety of photograms in relation to shapes, size and scenery. They will then learn how to take quality pictures, develop film and enlarge pictures in our darkroom. |
Students will have the opportunity to explore a number of life skills within the content area of Family and Consumer Science over a three year period of time if they sign up to take a class. Three food preparation classes are offered in grades 6-8. Each class focuses not only on the food pyramid and healthy eating but also food preparation techniques that can be used in your kitchen at home. Recipes/techniques become more challenging as a student progresses through Elm Place. Students will also have the opportunity to explore the wonderful art of sewing. Students who enroll in this class will learn hand and machine sewing while making a colorful windsock. More advanced students will have the opportunity to work on a more advanced project from a list of ideas.
