Attendance is vital to the success of you student
Attendance is vital to the success of students. Please help the school instill this important value by arranging doctor appointments, vacations, and lessons outside of school hours so that interruptions to valuable instruction time are kept to a minimum.
Parents are encouraged to call the school secretary at 681-6708.   PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE CLASSROOM TEACHER when your child will be absent or late.

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS
On your child’s birthday, we encourage parents to come to school at a prearranged time with the classroom teacher.  Please bring your child’s favorite book and either the parent or the teacher will read the book to the class.  Parents are asked to contact their child’s teacher 1 week prior to the child’s birthday to make arrangements for the visit.
No goodie bags, gifts, or treats can be brought for classmates. This is due to sensitivity of families who are experiencing financial stress due to the economy as well as due to new state laws regarding food that can be served at school.

Busing/Other Transportation
At one time or another, many Early Childhood students will ride a school bus, whether for transportation to and from school or for field trips. Therefore, all parents and students should review the following bus rules and procedures.

  1. Be on time for the bus.
  2. Follow the bus driver’s directions the first time they are given.
  3. Use the seat belt. Do not unbuckle, leave your seat, stand or kneel. Safety is provided by the high seat backs and seat belts when students sit properly.
  4. Remain buckled in the seat in the event of an emergency until instructions are given by the driver or teacher in charge.
  5. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself. Do not raise or lower the windows.
  6. Use classroom voices on the bus.
Keep the bus clean. No eating or drinking is allowed on the bus.

CHANGE OF CLOTHING
All students must have a complete change of clothing in his/her locker. This prevents parents from having to make unnecessary trips to school to bring extra clothing.

CHANGE OF PHONE NUMBER AND ADDRESS
It is vitally important that your student's school has your correct phone numbers and address. If a phone number and/or address changes during the school year, the school office should be notified in writing so that our student’s registration information can be kept up to date. If there is a change in the emergency contact, work, pager, or cellular phone number, the school office should also be notified in writing.

CLASSROOM DIRECTORY
Each year the preschool teachers compile a directory of student names and contact information. This directory has been used by families to set up play dates and to organize other activities. If you would like to share your information please return the attached form.  For confidentiality reasons, only the names of the students in your child’s classroom will be shared.

DIAPERING GUIDELINES
In order to ensure sanitary conditions in the early childhood classrooms, as well as occasional classrooms across the district, it is necessary to provide parents and staff with a set of guidelines which will be followed for children wearing diapers or those experiencing bladder or bowel control issues. These guidelines, provided for us by the Lake County Health Department, are designed to provide staff members the ability to appropriately care for your child without compromising their ability to provide a safe and healthy environment for the student, other students in the class or program, as well as the staff members attending to them.
The guidelines will primarily be in effect for children in diapers or pull-ups who experience loose stools, diarrhea or bowel movement ‘accidents,’ but will also apply to older students with control issues. They will be implemented in order to protect students and staff from viral or bacterial gastroenteritis. These precautions are in addition to the strict hand washing practices and usual cleanup procedures now in place.
Any child who exhibits signs or symptoms of a diarrheal illness will be excluded from school. This includes children who experience frequent loose or watery stools or present with a fever. Any time blood is observed in the stool, the child will be sent home. Also to be excluded are:
• any child whose stool cannot be contained in the diaper.
• any child who experiences two or more frequent stools per day.
• any child for whom staff cannot maintain safe and sanitary conditions during the clean up process.
We recognize the importance of potty training for our students and also that during this process, children may have accidents and may require help with toileting needs. If the child is wearing underwear, then a diaper or pull up will be used for the balance of the day. If the accidents become a regular occurrence, then the pull up must be worn at school until full bladder and bowel control is achieved. Children should not wear underwear to school unless fully potty trained.

We understand that many of our students follow strict diets and/or take dietary supplements which may cause loose stools. In order to ensure that these stools are not infectious, we will require the parent to have the child’s doctor provide written verification that the child is experiencing normal stools for that child. However, if the stools increase to a number that is unmanageable at school, the child will be sent home.

PARENT VOLUNTEERING
The Early Childhood Program encourages parent volunteers. When volunteering please sign in at the Early Childhood office. The following guidelines for parent volunteers are:

  1. Volunteering includes activities on site at school as well as take home items
  2. Volunteers will be limited to adults. Other siblings cannot accompany their parents due to safety; distractibility of the children will impact the learning environment.
  3. A parent’s first request to volunteer may not be possible due to the number of parents volunteering on a given day.
  4. Some of the activities that parent volunteers are assisting with may be completed in the preschool meeting room or other areas of the school
  5. Faculty and administrators reserve the right to ask volunteers to complete activities in other locations outside of the classrooms.
  6. Volunteer time slots are limited to one hour due to the number of parents who graciously volunteer to help the preschool.
Remember to sign in and wear a visitor’s badge.

Progress Reports and Parent Conferences
The home/school partnership is crucial in providing an effective educational program. To foster this relationship, teachers complete progress reports in November, March and June of each year. Parent conferences are conducted in November and March. Teachers are also committed to sharing important information with parents throughout the entire school year. Parents are encouraged to contact teachers whenever there is a question or concern.

SCHOOL NURSE
Our school nurse is Mrs. Stephanie Charrlin.
If your child has a food allergy or other health issues, please include this information on the health inventory form and it will be retained as part of his/her health record as well as shared with teaching staff.

Preschool and elementary students with significant allergies have varied levels of awareness and self advocacy skill.  In classrooms where there are student with food allergies, only fruits and vegetables will be allowed.

SPECIAL EDUCATION SERVICES
A full continuum of special education and related services are available for students attending the preschool program.  Should a concern arise regarding your child you should contact your child’s teacher.  At that time they will enter the pre-referral process where the team works with you to try to address the issue before a formal referral for special education services is initiated.

When a student’s licensed health care provider and parent(s)/guardian(s) believe that it is necessary for the student to take a medication during school hours, they must request that the school dispense or supervise the self-administration of the medication to or by the student and otherwise follow the District's procedures on dispensing medication.
No District employee shall administer to any student, or supervise a student’s self-administration of, any prescription or non-prescription medication until a completed and signed "School Medication Authorization Form" is submitted by the student’s parent(s)/guardian(s). No student shall possess or consume any prescription or non-prescription medication on school grounds or at a school-related function other than as provided for in this policy and its implementing procedures. A student may possess medication prescribed for asthma for immediate use at the student’s discretion, provided the student’s parent(s)/guardian(s) have completed and signed a "School Medication Authorization Form." The District shall inform the parent(s)/guardian(s) of the student, in writing, that the District and its employees and agents shall incur no liability, except for willful and wanton conduct, as a result of any injury arising from a student’s self-administration of medication or the medication’s storage by school personnel. The parent(s)/ guardian(s) of the student shall, in turn, sign a statement acknowledging this fact. In their acknowledgement, the parent(s)/guardian(s) must indemnify and hold harmless the District and its employees and agents against any claims, except a claim based on willful and wanton conduct, arising out of a student’s self-administration of medication or the storage of the medication by school personnel.

Nothing in this policy shall prohibit any school employee from providing emergency assistance to students, including administering medication.

Visiting School

  • The administration and faculty encourage parent participation and involvement. You are always welcome to come to the school. After students have entered the building in the morning, all doors around the school are locked. Visitors must enter through the front doors. Please ring the bell for entrance into the building and go immediately to the school office. Sign in. You will receive a visitor’s pass to wear. You may then proceed to your destination within the school.
  • The Early Childhood Center at Green Bay School is also bound by District 112 School Board policy regarding visits:
  • “It is the policy of District 112 to develop and sustain a learning environment in each classroom which is conducive to and supportive of excellent teaching, which is subject to the least possible disruption. To these ends, the Board of Education places the following conditions on classroom visitations by parents or other non-district adults who wish to observe teaching or who are engaged in research or other professional educational development activities:
  • Requests for classroom visitations must be made to the building principal within a reasonable time frame specified in administration regulations.
  • Approval of any visitations can be authorized only by a building principal or the Superintendent of Schools.
  • In determining whether or not to approve a request, the following factors will be given particular weight:
  • The possible impact of a proposed visit on the environment for teaching and learning
  • The appropriateness of a request
  • The safety of students and staff
  • Limits on the number and length of visits shall be specified in administrative regulations.
It is the expectation of the Board of Education that persons given approval for classroom visitations will, during the time they are in classrooms, show respect for the rights of students and staff, and conduct themselves so as to cause a minimum of distraction from the principle activities of teaching and learning.”
