Correction to 2010-11 Parent Handbook Calendar
Some discrepancies have been identified on the calendar that was included in the English version of the “2010-2011 North Shore School District Handbook of Information for Parents” that was recently distributed. The specific dates that were omitted or misprinted in the calendar section were:
  • September 9 – No School
  • October 14 – Early Release Day, No AM Kindergarten
  • December 8 – Early Release, No PM Kindergarten
  • January 11 – Early Release Day, No AM Kindergarten
  • February 2 – School Is In Session
  • April 22 – No School

NCLB Information for Parents
The No Child Left Behind (NCLB) of 2001 is a federally-enacted law governing elementary and secondary education. NCLB requires that school districts provide information to parents about a variety of education-related issues, including information related to adequate yearly progress (AYP). Many of these notifications are provided in letters sent directly to parents at their home. Below is a frequently asked questions (FAQ) document and copies of letters that have been sent to parents of students at Oak Terrance, Indian Trail and Braeside schools.

 
Statement Re Death of Former Northwood/Oak Terrace Student

The staff and administration of Northwood Junior High School, Oak Terrace School and North Shore School District 112 are deeply saddened at the tragic news that a 14-year-old former Northwood Junior High School/Oak Terrace School student died early Sunday morning, September 6, 2010.

The administration at Northwood Junior High School, Oak Terrace and North Shore School District 112 have implemented their crisis response plan. This includes providing counseling services from Northwood, Oak Terrace and district social workers to any students and staff who are grieving the loss of their friend and former schoolmate. Prior to the start of school on Tuesday, September 7, the schools' principals, along with Superintendent Dr. David Behlow, will meet with the school’s teachers and staff to prepare for the emotional trauma that students may experience from this tragic news. This meeting will not be open to the news media or the general public.

"It is difficult for any of us to understand and comprehend this shocking loss,” said David L. Behlow, Ph.D., Superintendent. “On behalf of the board of education, administration, teachers and employees, we ask that you remember this family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."

Strategic Plan Information
On June 15, 2010, the North Shore School District 112 Board of Education overwhelmingly approved the new North Shore School District 112 Strategic Plan. The vote was the culmination of months of hard work by hundreds of dedicated parents, community members and staff to develop a strategic plan that will guide the school district through 2015.
