Indian Trail PTO
PTO Welcome! Whether you prefer being in the classroom or behind the scenes, would like to spend an hour each week or just an hour all year, the Indian Trail PTO has developed a wide variety of volunteer opportunities for our parent community. The list below of PTO committees includes a brief description of the important work they do. We encourage your involvement – it’s a wonderful way to meet other parents, teachers and students, while helping enrich the educational experiences of each and every child at Indian Trail School. COMMITTEE DESCRIPTIONS

Angel Fund: Collects voluntary contributions throughout the year from I.T. donors.  These donations assist in making purchases for the school.

Assemblies: Selects and coordinates PTO sponsored special enrichment activities, workshops, and assemblies for the children.  Chairs attend a one-day performers’ showcase in the fall to determine appropriate programs.

Bake Sales: Organizes and conducts all Bake Sales for various programs throughout the year.

Bingo Night: Coordinates, organizes and publicizes annual Family Bingo Night.

Birthday Books: Promotes purchases of Birthday Books in honor of children. Acknowledges purchased books throughout the year.

Blizzard Days: Arranges Blizzard Days on 4 Wednesdays of the year -or quarterly. Informs parents, finds volunteers, collects money, and supervises distribution at lunch.

Book Fair: Arranges the annual Book Fair; works with book vendors, sends out promotional material, prepares decorations, organizes volunteers for set-up on days of the fair.

Bus Transportation: Monitors buses for routes, safety, and children’s initial adjustments; organizes parent pool to ride the buses during the initial weeks of school.

Buzz Book: Compiles all information for the Buzz Book, including family names, addresses, phone numbers, e-mails and class information. Distributes completed Buzz Books.

Coat & Boot Drive: Assists in collection and distribution of coats and boots.

Family Science Day: Plans and coordinates activities for families.

Fifth Grade Graduation: Plans and implements graduation party and activities for fifth grade students. Raises money for class gift.

Fine Arts Enrichment: Creates art projects and prepares presentations for classes during school hours about selected artists, architects, musicians, photographers, etc.  No experience necessary… we make it foolproof!

Fun Fest: Helps coordinate and implement spring Fun Fest.  Organizes entertainment, food, Raffle Baskets, and other activities.

Gift Wrap: Helps run and coordinate fall Gift Wrap fundraiser.  Collects forms, submits to vendor, and distributes merchandise.

Great Books: Leads discussions for Jr. Great Books program for an 8- week period. Note: this program is for 2nd and 3rd graders.

Hospitality: Provides refreshments at PTO meetings, kindergarten orientation, PTO- sponsored events, conferences, and orientation; plans and organizes end-of-year Teachers’ Luncheon.

Hot Lunches: The Chair arranges Hot Lunch Days per schedule, informs parents, finds volunteers, collects money, and supervises at the time of hot lunch distribution. Volunteers distribute lunches to kids.

Ice-Skating Party: Coordinates, organizes, publicizes and collects money for annual ice-skating party at Centennial Ice Arena.

In-House Publicity: Maintains entry hall bulletin board. Assists Recording Secretary in disseminating school information through Trailblazer, e-mail Blast system, and flyers home.

Kids Who Care: A curriculum based program that meets with each grade’s teachers to formulate a community service project for students.

Language Clubs: Coordinates before and after school language programming.  Prepares sign-up forms, collects checks, organizes teachers and kids.

Learning Center: Assists in Learning Center on a regular basis.

New Family Welcome: Contacts and welcomes every family new to Indian Trial. Answers any questions relating to school and school activities, recommends ways to get involved in the PTO, and greets new families at school events.

Parking Lot Safety: Prepares and distributes carpool name cards, monitors drop- off/pick-up procedures.

Picture Day: Runs Picture Day; coordinates scheduling, volunteers, ordering, and money collection.

Publicity: Publicizes school events/activities within community by preparing press releases/photographs and submitting them to the Highland Park News

Reading Night: Coordinates and publicizes Family Reading Night in conjunction with annual Scholastic Book Fair.  

Room Parent: Chair initiates phone tree for various events and emergencies; selects Room Parents from submitted requests; communicates responsibilities to all Room Parents; provides Room Parents with information packet before orientation; identifies lead Room Parent for each grade. Note: committee does not consist of people who want to be Room Parents, but rather, those who want to coordinate volunteers.

School Merchandise: Selects and sells school merchandise.  Develops display case for beginning of year sales.

School Supplies: Coordinates and fills school supply orders at start of year.

Trailblazer: Organizes, facilitates printing and distribution of the bi-weekly school newsletter to classrooms.

Trail Trekkers: Organizes activities and volunteers for 1st and 2nd grade lunchtime walking club in the fall.

Used Books: Organizes the Spring Used Book Drive.

Yearbook: Responsible for creation, coordination, collection of money and distribution of our yearbook. Captures photographic memories throughout the year.
