In science, we are watching the activity in our terrariums and aquariums as we explore how the living things in each interact. We will be learning about food chains and food webs and then will explore how the land environment and water environments will interact, just like in the real world.
In social studies, the students are completing large scale maps of the United States to apply the map skills we have been learning. The finished maps are due on Monday, November 12.
In math, we are studying basic multiplication facts, some beginning algebra concepts, and problem solving. We will be taking weekly timed tests in multiplication, so encourage your child to practice those basic facts!
In language arts, we are using the new Storytown program that has been adopted by the district. The anthology uses excerpts from quality children's literature to teach a multitude of skills. We are also just completing our first class novel, Fourth Grade Rats, by Jerry Spinelli, a terrific story about how two different boys adjust to the transition to 4th grade. Check out our classroom door during Children's Book Week to see our creative interpretation of this story!
Conferences will be held on Monday, November 19 from 12:00-8 P.M. and Tuesday, November 20 from 12:00-8:00 P.M. I look forward to seeing everyone!
