About Ms. Fanselow:
This is my second year at Lincoln as a second grade teacher. I love working with children and watching them grow into their own unique individual. I enjoy making learning a fun experience.
I was born and raised in the Chicago area and have two terrific parents and one older brother. They are very supportive and are my biggest fans. I graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University in Elementary Education and am working towards my Masters in Reading at Northeastern Illinois University.
Some hobbies that I enjoy are cooking, baking, traveling, swimming, and biking on the lakefront when the weather is nice. I hope to do my second triathlon this upcoming summer.

Homework Policy:
Students have homework each night except for Fridays. Homework is expected to be returned each morning. After homework has not been turned in three times, that student must stay in for recess. (3 strikes and you're out)

Monthly Reading Incentive:
To keep students motivated to read, I have a monthly reading incentive for my students. They have a goal that they must reach in a certain amount of time. This goal is to read a certain amount of minutes in a month. Their goal starts out somewhat easy and gets more difficult as the year progresses. Students should record how many minutes they read each night on their reading log, which I provide them with. I will monitor and update these logs weekly. If students achieve their goal, they will be included in a “party” reward. Rewards in the past have included an ice cream party, hot dog party, pizza party, etc. I appreciate the parents’ help and time at home reading with their children. It really makes a difference!

Behavior Management :
There are three elements to my behavior management plan. One of the more positive aspects of the plan is a marble jar. When the entire class excels in academics or behavior, we add 16 marbles to the jar (one for each student). Once the jar is half full, students will receive a reward that they have agreed on as a class. The same will happen when the jar is completely full.
Secondly, if I notice that a student is really excelling in an area, following directions correctly, or doing a very kind deed, I will invite him or her to take a “tigger ticket.” They then write their name on the back of the ticket and place it in a tub. Two names are drawn from the tub at the end of each week for a special prize.
Finally, each student is given a series of four cards: one card of green, one card of double green, one card of yellow, and one card of red. Each day, all students start on the single green card. If a student chooses not to follow the classroom rules or not listen to directions, I will tell that student to switch their card. Once they get to the red card, they will not receive their recess time, whether it is at lunch recess or during the second grade recess.

Birthday Treats :
Because of a peanut allergy in the second grade this year, please send ONLY peanut free treats with your child. This not only includes items WITH peanuts such as peanut butter, actual peanuts, peanut M&M’s, etc., but items MADE with peanuts such as chocolate treats. Also remember to bring in treats that are all the same. Below is a list of acceptable treats for your child to bring to school:
- vanilla cupcakes
- any packaged Hostes product
- rice crispy treats
- sugar cookies
- donuts
***We have 15 students in the class***
