What Can You Do At Home To Help?
Math
A majority of the homework given throughout the week will be math homework. Please work with your child and have him or her explain the solution(s) to you. This will be a great reinforcement to the learning that took place earlier in the day. Also practice basic addition and subtraction facts with your child if possible.
Reading
I encourage my students to read at least 20 minutes at home each night. This can include your child reading by himself/herself, reading together with your child, or reading to your child.
Creative Writing
Encourage your child to write each day at home. Perhaps start a journal for your child to write about his or her feelings, ideas, or questions, or to simply write about what happened that day.
Printing
Encourage correct letter formation, pencil hold, and spacing at home to reinforce what your child learns and practices at school.
Spelling
Second grade has a spelling quiz each Friday. A list of the words will typically go home at the beginning of each week. Please study these words at home with your child so that they are prepared for the quiz at the end of the week.
