About Oak Terrace
Oak Terrace School has been a landmark in Highwood since 1916. It began as a main auditorium and six classrooms. When the school opened, there were 187 students and six teachers. Past principals include John Ourth, Ray Rodriguez and Art Abrego.
The current Oak Terrace was constructed in 2000. The two-story building exhibits a 'prairie-style' look influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright. The 85,000 square foot brick building includes 28 classrooms, a 6,000 square foot gym, a 3,400 square foot multi - purpose room, a cafeteria, two art rooms and a music room. Oak Terrace today serves 576 students and up to 90 plus staff members. Sandy Anderson is the Principal, Charlotte Drayer is the associate principal, and Jamie Di Carlo serves as the Special Education Learning Coordinator. We are proud of our parent involvement and the way we work together to support the variety of the programs we offer. We are also support of the over 50 partnerships Oak Terrace has with the community. We believe that when a village becomes involved in the lives of children great success stories emerge!
