Who ARE we?
The PTO is a Parent-Teacher Organization of Oak Terrace School.
.
What is our PURPOSE?
Our purpose is to form an effective partnership between families and staff members with the intention of fostering greater student success.  Together we will further social, emotional and academic growth for our students by providing a wide array of cultural and educational programs throughout the school year.  We also donate our time and resources to the school, to the library and to the staff.

What is our OBJECTIVE?
It is our objective to make ALL children feel significant, unique and a capable member of our community.  We assist and support the staff by working in a cooperative role to bring the home and school together.  We also assist in planning programs and activities to enhance our children’s educational experience.  Our income is derived primarily from various fund raising efforts that help subsidize planned programs and activities.

El PTO es una organización de Padres y Maestros de la escuela de Oak Terrace.

¿Cual es nuestro PROPOSITO?
Nuestro propósito es formar una asociación efectiva entre familias y miembros de la escuela, con la intención de fomentar más triunfos escolares para nuestros estudiantes.  Juntos, aumentaremos el conocimiento social, emocional, y académico de nuestros estudiantes proporcionando varias series de programas educativas y culturales a través del año escolar.  También donamos nuestro tiempo y recursos a la escuela, biblioteca, y personal de la escuela.

¿Cual es nuestro OBJETIVO?
Nuestro objetivo es que TODOS los niños se sientan significantes, especiales, y miembros capaces de nuestra comunidad.  Nosotros ayudamos y apoyamos al personal de la escuela tomando un papel cooperativo para unir la escuela y el hogar.  También asistimos en planear programas y actividades para mejorar la experiencia educativa de nuestros hijos.  Nuestro ingreso es principalmente derivado de varios esfuerzos y eventos creados para cubrir los gastos de planeando programas y actividades. 

¿Qué puede contribuir para HACER UNA DIFERENCIA?
Reconociendo el valor de la participación de los padres, nosotros aconsejamos que contribuya al éxito general de su hijo haciéndose un miembro activo de la Organización de Padres y Maestros (PTO).

PTO Committee Chairperson Descriptions
(*Indicates one-time event)
  • Amazing Minds - Recruit 1st and 2nd graders each semester for this after-school program; collect fees.
  • *Bingo Night - Organize and supervise this one-time event held on a Friday in October.
  • * Book Fair - Work with the book vendors, send out promotional material, prepare decorations, and supervise volunteers for to set-up and “manning” the tables during the day.
  •  Box Tops / Target - Coordinate this PTO fundraiser by getting parents/students to collect and turn-in general mills box tops for $$$.  Also coordinate with Target and SchoolCash.com.
  •  Bulletin Board - Design, update and maintain the PTO bulletin board throughout the school year.
  •  Buzz Book - Compile information for the Buzz Book including family names, addresses, phone numbers, and class information.  Last two years are available on CD Rom for easy updating!  Sell ads to local business for inclusion in the Buzz Book.
  •  Coro Mundi - Coordinate events throughout the school year.
  •  Cultural Enrichment - Select and coordinate special enrichment activities for children of all grade levels.  Select artists, musicians, science programs and more!
  • * District 112 Fun(d) Run - Coordinate this PTO fundraiser. 
  • * Fun Fair - Coordinate this carnival type PTO fundraiser.
  • * Gift Wrap Fundraiser - Coordinate the sale and distribution of gift-wrap as a PTO fundraiser.
  • * Holiday Shoppe - Coordinate this PTO fundraising event during the first week of December.
  •  Life on the Terrace - Collect articles and information from staff members and PTO committee chairpersons for inclusion in the School newsletter.  Spanish translations provided by Oak Terrace.
  • * Kindergarten Welcome - Organize this one-time student event in August to welcome new Kindergarteners to Oak Terrace.  Work with the teachers and administrative staff to coordinate activities, snacks and informational presentations.
  • * Krispy Kreme - Organize this one-time PTO fundraiser.
  •  Media Center Coordinator - Coordinates events with library, classrooms, parents, cultural & holiday events (i.e. Dr. Seuss week)
  •  Membership - Maintain PTO membership list and coordinate PTO information table at school events to recruit new members.
  • * Mostaciolli Dinner - Organize this one-time event held on a Friday in February.
  •  Nominating - Organize annual election of PTO Board in the Spring.
  •  NSSED/Oak Terrace Liaison - Represent Oak Terrace School at Northshore Special Ed District meetings.
  •  Parent Volunteer - Recruit and organize parent volunteers to assist in classrooms, library, etc. and maintain Emergency Calling Tree for school closings.
  • * Picture Day - Organize picture day, including scheduling, volunteers, ordering and money collection.
  •  Publicity - Submit articles to local publications regarding school activities and arrange news coverage of same.
  •  Reading Enrichment Programs - Implement extra-curriculum reading programs for all grades.
  •  Room Parent Coordinator - Compile list of Room Parents.
  •  School Board Liaison - Represent Oak Terrace School at School Board meetings and updates PTO members.
  • * School Supplies - Coordinate with teachers, tallies orders and arranges for pick-up before school begins.
  •  School T-Shirts - Coordinate the sale of Oak Terrace T-shirts. 
  • * Silent Auction - Coordinate this one-time PTO fundraiser.  Work with local businesses and parents to obtain donations, set pricing, organize event, distribute winnings, and collect money. 
  •  Teacher Appreciation - Organize teacher appreciation luncheons twice during conference weeks.
  •  Yearbook - Responsible for creation, coordination, collection of money, and distribution of school yearbook.  Captures and collects photographic memories throughout the school year.
