Homework is an important part of each student’s
educational program. Homework is assigned to serve the
following purposes:
• To reinforce and strengthen academic skills and promote
mastery
• To help students develop good study habits
• To promote growth in responsibility
Homework is thus the child’s task and responsibility; not
the parents. Parents are asked to help the child find an
appropriate time and place for completing homework and to
check that the child understands the task and is
completing the assignments on time.
Part of homework every night is to read for at least
twenty minutes, even if there is no other assigned
homework. We also strongly encourage parents to regularly
spend time doing some sort of learning activity: reading,
playing learning games, writing stories, practicing math
facts, or applying concepts.
Homework when absent: If your child is ill and absent
from school your child’s teacher should be contacted
regarding assignments.
Homework Policy for Vacations: If a family chooses to
take a vacation when school is in session please note that
the student will miss critical classroom instruction and
assignments. As school policy, teachers will not send
homework in advance. Students will be given an
appropriate amount of time to make up work upon return.
