Welcome to First Grade!

Goals for the Year

-For each child to  grow academically, personally, and socially .

-For each child to develop positive feelings about school and a love of learning.

-For each child to  realize his/her own strengths and feel good about him/herself.

What Do We Learn in First Grade?

Literacy is one of our large focuses in first grade.  Children will engage in a many reading  and writing activities everyday.  They will work in whole group, small groups, partners and independently to practice literacy skills.  We will also learn a range of math concepts this year, including place value, graphing, money, and time.

Some of the exciting units that first graders will engage in include apples, bees, "Pushes and Pulls" (simple machines), space, and a variety of auther studies.  We will also have an "Explorer's Club" unit centered around various topics related to the earth.
