Long-Range Facilities Plan
The Long-Range Facilities Plan for North Shore School District 112 is a comprehensive effort to update and modernize our schools. This long-range plan reflects a strategic approach to improving the district's facilities in phases, with attention to safety, security and modern educational needs.
Following the successful renovation of our middle schools in Phase 1, we are currently focused on our elementary schools as part of Phase 2. This includes the renovation of Indian Trail, Ravinia, Braeside, Sherwood and Wayne Thomas. These projects are being financed by the 2022 referendum, approved by our community with a resounding 72% of the vote.
Phase 1
The first phase of the Long-Range Facilities Plan focused on the district's two middle schools, Northwood and Edgewood.
- Construction at Northwood began in 2019 and was completed in 2021.
- Construction at Edgewood began in 2021 and was completed in April 2023.
- Upgrades were completed at Oak Terrace to accommodate the Early Childhood program. Additionally, the main entrance was relocated to the north side of the building.
Phase 2
We are currently in the second phase of the Long-Range Facilities Plan, which is focused on five of the district's elementary schools. This phase is possible due to the successful referendum in 2022.
Indian Trail Elementary School
COMPLETED
- Construction at Indian Trail began in August 2023 and was completed in September 2024. The school reopened to students and staff following the 2024 Thanksgiving break.

Ravinia Elementary School
COMPLETED
- Construction at Ravinia began in December 2023 and was completed in August 2025. The school is open to students and staff to begin the 2025-2026 school year.

Sherwood Elementary School
IN PROGRESS
- Construction at Sherwood began in February 2025. It is expected to be completed in May 2026, with students and staff returning to the building to begin the 2026-2027 school year. Sherwood is temporarily relocated to 2031 Sheridan Road, in the building formerly known as Elm Place Middle School.

Braeside Elementary School

- Braeside's renovation began in August 2025. It is expected be completed in late 2026. A date for a return to the building is not yet set, but is expected to be in January 2027. Braeside is temporarily relocated to Green Bay School during construction.

Wayne Thomas Elementary School
PLANNING IN PROGRESS
- Wayne Thomas' renovation will commence following the completion of Sherwood, around July 2026. Construction is expected to last about 14 months, with students and staff returning to the building around November 2027.
Phase 2 Timeline
Phase 3
Phase 3 of the Long-Range Facilities Plan focuses on the future of the K-5 dual language program, Red Oak Elementary School, and the Early Childhood program. Beginning in 2027-2028, the dual language program will consolidate at Oak Terrace Elementary, Red Oak will close after the 2026-2027 school year, and Early Childhood will return to Green Bay School. This transition, guided by a community Task Force, is designed to ensure long-term quality, equity and sustainability for students. Learn more about the process that informed these Phase 3 decisions.
