Sherwood Renovation

As part of Phase 2 of our Long-Range Facilities Plan, Sherwood School is undergoing a major renovation to expand and improve learning spaces for students and staff. Moving forward, this page will keep you updated with construction progress, photos, and renderings of what’s to come. Work began in February 2025 and is expected to be completed in the summer of 2026, with students and staff moving into the new building to begin the 2026-2027 school year.

Project Overiew

Like the renovations at Indian Trail and Ravinia, the work at Sherwood is a complete transformation of the building. The project will deliver:

  • A new gymnasium with more space for P.E. classes, student assemblies, and schoolwide events
  • A redesigned main entrance that creates more space and a safer, more welcoming way into the building
  • Reconfigured classrooms, a new library, and a multipurpose room transformed into a cafeteria with a kitchen to bring district food service to the school, providing modern spaces for students to learn and collaborate
  • A new bus lane and larger parking lot to improve arrival and dismissal, with electric vehicle charging stations included
  • A geothermal heating and cooling system that will increase energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact
  • Site work and landscaping to improve outdoor areas and enhance the school’s curb appeal

Progress to Date (February-October 2025)

The project is now 54% complete. While important work remains, significant progress has already been achieved and the transformation is well underway.

  • The gym addition has taken shape, with the main structure erected, the concrete flooring poured, and roofing work underway.
  • At the main entrance, framing and roofing are visible, and temporary enclosures are helping the space take shape.
  • Inside, classrooms and the library are becoming more defined as drywall goes up, finishes are applied, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems are installed.
  • The multipurpose room and kitchen show visible progress, with framing, plumbing, and electrical work completed and new walk-in coolers and freezers already set.
  • Site improvements include parking lot reconfiguration, new sidewalks and curbs, and stormwater systems, with grading completed in preparation for future landscaping.
  • Work has also begun on the geothermal system, with wells drilled in October to provide efficient heating and cooling once the system is complete.

Current Work (Fall 2025)

  • Crews are installing roofing and weatherproofing across several areas of the building.
  • Classrooms and learning spaces are being finished with drywall, taping, and painting.
  • Plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems are being put in place throughout the school.
  • The main entrance canopy and exterior finishes are under construction.
  • Site crews are completing sidewalks, curbs, and grading.

What's Next?

  • Crews will complete finishing work in classrooms, the library, and multipurpose areas.
  • Drilling of geothermal wells will wrap up, followed by connections to the building systems.
  • Exterior masonry and brickwork are scheduled to be installed.
  • Roofing and weatherproofing are set to move into the final stages.
  • Landscaping and other exterior improvements are scheduled to begin in the spring.
