Emergency School Closing Information
EMERGENCY SCHOOL CLOSING INFORMATION:
Inclement weather or other unanticipated emergencies may result in school being cancelled, or in a change of schedule to a late start or early dismissal. The determination to close school or implement the late start schedule will be based upon available information collected from local law enforcement agencies, weather forecast services, and neighboring school district administrators. If this happens, every effort will be made to finalize the decision by 5 a.m. of that school day. Roadway conditions and the possibility of dangerously unsafe temperatures are the main factors that drive the decision.
If one or more of our schools close, or the schedule changes, the district will communicate with parents and staff as soon as possible in the following ways:
School closing and schedule change information will be posted on our district website at www.nssd112.org, and on each school’s home page.
All parents who have shared their phone contact information and given permission will be contacted through our automated phone messaging system as soon as the decision to close or change the schedule is made. If a parent does not receive a school-closing call, it is because the phone number is either not listed properly in our computer, or the permission is not on file. The parent would need to contact the school office on the next valid school day to update the files.
All parents who have shared their email contact information and given permission will be also be contacted via an email alert.
We will communicate our closing information to local broadcast media, including WBBM Radio 780; WGN Radio 720; and all local television news stations. Information will also be shared with www.emergencyclosings.com.
You may go to any of the following resources to get school closing information: For emergency closing information, please listen or watch local radio stations WBIG 1280 AM, WKKD 580 or 95.5 FM, WSPY 107.1 FM, WFXW 1480 AM, WGN TV Channel 9 or 720 AM, WMAQ 670, WBBM 780, FOX TV Channel 32 News, CBS TV Channel 2.
