D112 BOE Hires Assistant Superintendent For Teaching & Learning

NORTH SHORE SCHOOL DISTRICT 112 BOARD OF EDUCATION
HIRES ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING


Highland Park, Highwood and Fort Sheridan, IL – The North Shore School District 112 (NSSD
112) Board of Education approved the hiring of Dr. Kevin Ryan as the Assistant Superintendent
for Teaching and Learning. In his role, he will be responsible for overseeing curriculum,
instruction and assessment to improve student growth and success. He will work closely with
the central office administrative team as a member of the cabinet, as well as serve as a
resource for the principals as they work to improve student achievement.


Dr. Ryan has been an instructional leader for many years, most recently serving as the Director
of 21st Century Learning, Curriculum and Instruction with Kildeer Countryside District 96. Dr.
Ryan spent five years in the curriculum role after being promoted from the Technology
Coordinator position in District 96. He also served as an assistant principal in District 96. During
his career he also has served as an Assistant Principal and as the Dean of Students in Cary
District 26. He began his career at Cary Junior High School as a U.S. History teacher.


“The Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning is a critical position as we strive to
provide our students with the best possible learning opportunities in order to meet the needs of
our 21st Century students,” said Dr. Jane L. Westerhold, Co-Interim Superintendent. “Dr. Ryan’s
extensive experiences and his collaborative leadership style will be an asset to the North Shore
School District 112 learning community.”


Dr. Ryan earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Florida Southern
College. He has a master’s degree in educational leadership from DePaul University. He earned
his doctorate degree from Illinois State University.


Dr. Ryan was the clear choice due to his varied background in education and his successful
leadership experiences in one of the top performing school systems in Illinois. He was
responsible for leading curriculum, instruction and professional development for math, science,
social studies and technology integration on a district-wide basis. His responsibilities also
include leading and supporting teachers and administrators in the use of data to plan and drive
instruction. Additionally, he is passionate about meeting the needs of all students so that they
are high school, college, and career ready.

administrators in North Shore District 112,” said Dr. Ryan. “I am looking forward to being part of
a high functioning team committed to the students, families and community of North Shore
School District 112.”
