ONGOING SCHOOL INFORMATION FOR PARENTS

STUDENT ABSENCES OR LATE ARRIVALS

A reminder that if your student will be absent or if your student will be late to school, please call the attendance line (224-765-3205) no later than 8:00 a.m.   Please also indicate the reason.  Thank you.

FORGOTTEN ITEMS

The shelves in the office are for forgotten items that are brought to school.  While parents are welcome to bring an item in, it is not our practice to call and disturb classroom instruction to let the student know it arrived.  Please ask your student to check the shelves.   They are welcome to use the office phone if they need to.  Thank you!

LEAVING SCHOOL EARLY

If a student needs to leave school early please send them with a note, writing the student's name and grade, time of pick-up, and the reason.  Ask them to bring it to the office first thing in the morning.  Or you can call the office if you wish.  The office will give them a pass that they will show the teacher of the class they are leaving.  They will then slip out of class at the appropriate time.  Our goal is to not disturb class time whenver possible.  The student will come to the office.  Please park in the west lot, and come in to sign them out from the office.  Thanks!

BUS TRANSPORTATION: A REMINDER

A reminder that in order for a student to ride home on a bus they are not registered for, Dr. Eriksen must receive an email request from a parent or guardian ahead of time, along with the reason for taking a different bus.  He will then need to approve the request. Students will not be permitted on a bus if the principal has not acknowledged the request.  Please note:  This is to be used for emergency purposes only--if there is no other way for the student to get home.   Thank you!

EARLY MORNING PASSES

The building is open at 7:20 a.m. for those students who have a pass to see a teacher (the parent should write the pass).  The student will show the pass to the door monitor before entering.  All students may make their way to their locker/class when the first bell rings at 7:48 a.m.

SCHOOL SAFETY DRILLS

Every year schools are required to perform school safety drills, so everyone is prepared if an emergency situation occurs at school.  This year, all students and staff have been trained, and we have practiced the following school safety drills: evacuation (fire) drill, soft lockdown drill, shelter-in-place drill, and bus evacuation drill.  In the near future, Edgewood will practice a hard lockdown drill.  This year's hard lockdown drill will be new to students and staff because we will incorporate the BluePoint Alert System (BLUE POLICE PULL STATIONS). The purpose is to help educate staff and students with audio-visual cues and how to follow direction in an armed shooter / police rapid deployment situation.  Please talk with your child about the importance of school safety and early reporting if something out of the ordinary is witnessed or observed.  Thank you for your partnership and support in maintaining Edgewood as a safe place to learn and grow.

BRINGING TREATS TO SCHOOL

Students are not allowed to bring treats (doughnuts, cupcakes, etc.) to school for birthday celebrations; this includes treats in classrooms or the cafeteria.  Thanks for your cooperation.
