WELCOME BACK TO 2018-2019
FROM THE PRINCIPAL - CHANGE IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR GROWTH
Hello Bobcats! I know we have a two more weeks of summer, but it is never too early to starting getting pumped for the school year ahead.
I have just completed a week long leadership retreat with our new superintendent of schools and the rest of the administrative team. This is now my seventh back to school in North Shore School District 112 and it has never been so unified, coherent, and optimistic for our future. There is so much to be proud of in D112 and Braeside specifically. While there is a lot of change taking place, and not all of the change looks or feels good, it is important for me to share that I see where this year fits into a longer term plan that is exceptional for our students here now and sustainably so for decades to come.
Over the course of our week we covered topics essential to unification among schools like how we find the very best talent to teach in our schools when vacancies occur. We spent two days delving into how we teach English as a language and explored what it means to competently design learning with content and language goals in mind. Doing these things together is so important for the success of our students and high consistent expectations in all our schools. We also spent time getting to know one another and I could not be more excited for the year ahead with great teammates across schools to collaborate with.
This year brings change to the entire D112 community and Braeside is no exception. But change is an opportunity for growth and growing is what we do. There will be new staff, many new families and it is incumbent upon us all to be open and welcoming to the gifts that our new faculty and families are bringing to our school. Additionally we all must support the transitions of those entering Braeside for the first time, be they kindergartners or upper grade students. Being new is hard enough and we meet that challenge with an energy that really defines the great community of Braeside.
As we close in on the launch of the school year I’ll close with a invitation for all new families at any grade level to come to visit their classroom on Friday, August 17 @ 2:15 p.m. Please understand our limited and rigid time for this visit as our teachers will be in high gear touching up rooms for day one on Monday. Also, save the dates for our Braeside Back to School Bash on August 26 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and Braeside Open House (parents only) on August 29, 2018 from 6:30-8:00 p.m.
Sincerely,
Joseph Hailpern
