News You Can Use 1.18.19

January 18, 2019

Braeside School and the WE School/Character Crusaders will be participating in Martin Luther King Day of Service on January 21st at the Highland Park Rec Center. This event celebrates the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. and his message of service to others.  Events will include read aloud/storytelling stories about diversity, respect, kindness, inclusion and Martin Luther King Jr. himself. There will be bookmarks for people to fill out and decorate, and a table where books donated from the Braeside Book Drive will be shared.

Martin Luther King Jr. is a huge part our history. His message of kindness, justice and non-violence is for everyone, everyday.

Here are the ways you can participate.

Bring a book you would like to share.

Beginning on Monday, January 14, 2019, donate one of your favorite books to the bin outside of the gym. We will give you a bookmark to write your recommendation on. Write why you would like to share the book. Does it have a good message? Is it about a person you should know more about? Is it a book everyone should have in their personal library? These books will be displayed and shared at Martin Luther King’s Day of Service.

Be a part of our story time!

Come as WE School/Character Crusaders share some of their favorite books with you.

Most importantly, be a part of Dr. King’s birthday celebration.

From 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. there will be lots of different activities for you to take part in. From 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. there will be a program that you will surely enjoy.

Do your part to honor Dr. King and his work to make the world a kinder, fairer and more understanding place!

Join next week on Wednesday evening for a parent evening to hear about and discuss Braeside School’s approach to social emotional care at school. This evening will be presented by Joey Hailpern (Principal), Karyn Karel (Social Worker), Jenny Finnerman (Social Worker), and Elizabeth Scruggs (Special Education Resource Teacher). We look forward to having you attend. There is no RSVP required for this event.

PLS #1 Social Emotional Learning and Leading - January 23, 2019 @ 7:30 p.m. in the Braeside IMC

The team at Braeside will share the overarching systems involved in tending to the social emotional wellness at Braeside. This will include curriculum resources used, behavioral systems that are school wide, intervention plans, and time for questions.

Do you know an incoming kindergartner? Have them contact the school office to let Kathi Pickens know of their existence! Planning is everything and we simply do not know about kindergartners until they tell us who they are. Encourage this please! Also, share the link below for folks to kick start the registration process.

Our primary music program is  Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. The shows are identical in content and we appreciate your support of the students at one or both of the shows. Please know that after the 2:00 p.m. show we will dismiss students back to the classroom to finish their day. We will be unable to accomodate calling classrooms to pull kids early after the show. Thank you in advance for your patience. The evening show will begin at 6:30 p.m. so arriving early to find parking and release your performer to their teacher will be helpful in ensuring all are accounted for.

Thank you to the over 100 people who responded with an RSVP for the PLS#2. Click here to tell us you are coming!
