FROM THE PRINCIPAL - SPRING CONFERENCES

As the temperature slowly rises we can see spring on the horizon. That means another chance to have you as our guests at school to discuss the progress being made throughout the year. We treasure this time with you and hope you’ll be able to attend during the days that are reserved for conferences. To sign up, please following this link.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION

After winter break, Braeside students completed the newly introduced Climbing Unit! The gym was transformed into a space filled with a wide variety of climbing opportunities for all students. The set up included a cargo net, 3 climbing/swinging ropes, 3 different types of rope ladders, and two rock climbing walls. Different challenges were provided on the climbing walls, cargo net, and ropes. Ask your children which climbing activity was their favorite.

We recently completed our Gymnastics/Tumbling Unit. This unit included basic and advanced tumbling skills, vault, the bar, balance beam, obstacle courses, and more. It was a thrill to see the students improve their skill level and body awareness.

The Bobcats are now starting the 2019 Braeside School Winter Olympic Games! This is a school wide team competition in which each squad is a designated country that will compete in 7 winter olympic events. The events include speed skating, bobsled, hockey, luge, curling, biathlon, and ski jump. The students in each class will earn "medals" that will equal points. The country with the most points at the end of the Olympics will win medals. We also designated next Wednesday (February 27) as Winter Olympic Wednesday. We are asking that all students wear their countries colors to school that day. Squad 1/Canada (red and white), Squad 2/Sweden (blue and yellow), Squad 3/Italy (red and green), and Squad 4/Finland (blue and white).

The Braeside Hockey League (BHL) is coming near the end of the regular season. The 4th and 5th graders are excited to get to the playoffs! The games have been fun, intense, and exciting.

3rd-5th grade students are participating in a health program called Too Good For Drugs. We are doing one lesson per week that includes an optional take home activity sheet to complete with the student's family.

You can find out more about the program at the following website:

The Physical Education staff wants to remind students to be responsible and make sure they have their gym shoes EVERYDAY for Physical Education. This will ensure that students can participate and be safe while running around in the gym. Thank you for cooperation.

BAND & ORCHESTRA SHINE

Congrats to our Band and Orchestra members who rocked the Edgewood house last week. Mr. Canel and Mr. Rhodes have a lot to be proud of in our mighty groups. Well done!

BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CARE WEBPAGE

We have updated our before-and-after school care webpage to include information from Innovation Learning, which will be our new provider for the 2019-2020 school year.  You can access this information by navigating to it on our school website, the district site, or with this direct link: https://www.nssd112.org/basp

INCOMING KINDERGARTEN CLASS

Do you know an incoming kindergartner? Have them contact the school office to let Kathi Pickens know of their existence! Planning is everything and we simply do not know about kindergartners until they tell us who they are. Encourage this please! Also, share the link below for folks to kick start the registration process.
