News You Can Use 8.23.2019

Week one of school is in the books! As a parent who is about to send my 1st, 4th, and 6th graders back to school next week I know how big of a deal this week is to happiness in the home. Hopefully you received Bobcats who were thrilled to see you and excited for the prospects of returning each day. If that is not the case, we want to know. As the first weeks are critical to setting the tone, please reach out if there are any concerns you have about the launch your child is experiencing.

Week two brings us a series of community events beginning on Sunday with our Back to School Bash. Come one, come all. It is a great time to be together as a school community with no pressures to do anything other than dance, eat ice cream, and maybe get dunked on by the falling bucket. The event begins at 2:00 p.m. and is put on by our amazing PTO.

Midway through the week we gather as adults for our annual Open House. Parents with one child at school can attend either the 6:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. classroom presentation. The 6:30 p.m. community presentation is for all parents and staff in the gymnasium. The adult focused evening goals are simple. We want to connect with you, introduce you to the staff, let you see the spaces your child spends nearly 40 hours a week, and engage as a community for one night about what our school program goals are for your children. During the community session at 6:30 p.m. I will be speaking to the recent presentation to our school board about the Profile of a D112 Graduate. I recommend you take a look, if you have not yet, to see what your local governing body is working to achieve in addition to the building improvements.

Finally, I’ll close with one request as we strive to strengthen our communication with families. Talk to your kids about their week. Listen for names of staff who impacted their week in a positive way. Then reach out to those staff using the directory link below and let them know that they had an impact on your child’s first week of school. We are so happy to be back in school and even happier that you’ve chosen us to be your educational partners.
